Growing up was tough enough when I was a child! I can’t imagine growing up in this new media obsessed world. Young girls as young as 5 or 6 are calling themselves fat, ugly and genuinely feeling bad about themselves. With internet social media and constant photoshoped images of women in magazines, young girls are striving for an unattainable and unreal image of perfection.
I recently photographed a young teenager who was turning 14. She is a tall, beautiful, smart, strong and amazing young girl that I have known since she was a baby. Her Mom told me that when she saw the images from our photo shoot she had started to cry. She said that I had made her look so beautiful. Her Mom said to her, “you are beautiful”. She shook her head and said, “no I’m not”. I recalled the many times that my mother had said the same thing to me. I always thought, you’re my Mom, you have to say that. I hope that when she looks at these images it will remind her how beautiful she really is.
I want to give all woman and young girls images of themselves that remind them that they are beautiful. Because we are all beautiful.
LIFE is beautiful.
YOU are beautiful.
